RE: Break-Away-Switch

Something is defective with the breakaway switch. You should get a replacement from your dealer before your next trip. A new one is only about $12-15 and takes about 5 minutes to install.

RE: Assist handle for bathroom

Find the handle that you want and have your dealer simply open up the wall, add the necessary blocking and install the handle. I would suggest using an ample supply of construction adhesive around everything while the wall is open to bind it all together. It's a very simple process. Good luck and happy ..... what ever!

RE: Snow load

DianneOK, How I kept from falling off! I didn't keep from falling off, I fell off numerous times. But after the 2nd shoveling the snow between the campers was only 2-3' from the roof line so it was more like stepping off by then. What we do is take a large plastic grain shovel and clear your way around the edge of the camper, carefully sliding the snow off as you work your way around. Then slide the remaining snow off in layers so you don't get your covers. It doeasn't hurt anything to leave the icy bottom 6-8". Your less apt to get your vents too! http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj168/traffordracing/HPIM5834.jpg

RE: Snow load

We received a letter last winter from the state fire marshal's office warning about snow loading isses and the resulting structural failures. We had over 200" of snow here last winter and shoveled all 103 units on the lot 3 times. Each time we had 48-60" of compacted snowload on them. I don't recall the exact # per SF used, but a 8'x35' camper with 60" of compacted snow and ice was carrying approximatly 9600# on the roof (works out to roughly 35#/sf) . How many of your rigs have that kind of excess carrying capacity? We were innundated this past spring with RV owners with damaged roofs and collapsed suspensions. We also saw many of our competitors that not only did not shovel but also left the slides open on their inventory. You want to see those buggers lean! And by the way, while shoveling them off, we would hit a point when you got enough snow off that the suspension would unload and it came up 4-6" and would litterally toss you off the roof as it did so.

RE: Cameo and Carri-Lite 30 ft wall slideouts

The CL36MAX1 Carri-lite is 36'-11" long and has a 30' long x 24" deep "full wall" slide. It is a flat floor slide with 1 motor and 3 rack and pinion rams that acuate it. It moves a bit slower than most Carriage slides, but to date has worked flawlessly with no issues. 17,030# GVWR. Same reliability with the 36FWS Cameo. http://www.rvtraderonline.com/find/listing/2009-CARRI-LITE-CL36MAX1-93499289 http://www.rvtraderonline.com/find/listing/2009-CAMEO-F36FWS-93529427

RE: 2008 Carriage Domani -- Big Disappointment!

I would like to offer up a couple of points. Most of the points made should refer to dealer issues, not Carriage. An experienced Domani dealer should have caught and resolved most of the items during PDI. The Domani comes with 20" polished aluminum "American Racing Wheels". The "pitting" is most likely overspray from when they painted the camper. They cover the front of the wheels, not the back side in the paint shop. It just needed to be polished off. Try replaceing the landing gear fuse with a resetable breaker, running the rear stabilizers blind is a definite draw back and you cannot "lift" much with those stabilizer jacks. On the entertainment center issue. If your unit has the 30a service you need to add a cheap UPS or uninteruptable power supply that you can plug the PolkAudio system into to stop it from shutting off, I am guessing when the AC cycles on. It does not like the power level fluctuations like a PC. If yours has the 50a service, your dealer needs to check that the entertainment center and AC are wired on opposite legs at the breaker panel. If you plug into 30a service then you need to considder the 30a fix I noted first. I am sorry you had a less than ideal experience with your Domani and I hope this helps. As for the poster that noted the "cheap materials" used on the Domani, what were you refering too? the imported Russion birch plywwod, the Corian counter tops, the Shapr residential convection/microwave?

RE: Is this a good price (winterizing my 5er)

Everybody is throwing their two cents in but nobody asked the right questions to answer the initial question. Is this a straight up winterizing or does your RV have an Icemaker, Dishwasher, Washer-Dryer.... Are you set up at home or the campground to flush and drain your tanks when done? It all add's time and 15-20 minutes is not a realistic time frame to do it right, even on a basic winterizing. When everything is winterized you still need to properly flush and drain you tanks, 10 minutes by it's self. You also need to leave antifreeze in your toilet to keep the seals from drying out.

RE: Adding a toilet sprayer from scrach ????

The toilet manufacturers make a kit for doing just this. It's called a water saver kit. Runs around $40-45 at most rv dealers. Includes the appropriate valve, hose, sprayer, etc.

RE: Please calm my nerves, first UT-OH! on new 5'ver

Mike, What have you done to your new baby!.... Just kidding. As you probably know by now, (I think you were here when I did it) I dropped a 06 Cruiser 5th wheel on one of the yard trucks last week. Left a small divot and scratch on the camper and a good dent on the bed rail of the truck. The steel framing in the pin box support area has to take all the abuse and then some that you can deliver while out enjoying your RV. A minor bump like you gave it is nothing other than nerve rattling. My brother-in law always takes his new trucks home and puts a small ding in one of the rocker panels with a ball peen hammer just to get it over with. Get out and enjoy that new Cruiser and new Chevy and make a mental note to "don't do it again!" Darryl

RE: Dual Pane in Carri-Lite '08 - Is it needed?

Just for reference, the dual pane glass and astrofoil change the rating of the Carri-lite from 20 degree comfortable to 0 degree comfortable. For anybody that wintered in one here in New England this past winter, that is a huge difference.

RE: I screwed up again.

As long as you drained the water heater, water pump and freshwater tank, your damage should be minimal. They usually split the fitting at the shower and occasionally one or two other fittings. The lines themselves rarely split. Most freeze-up repairs only take about two hours plus a few fittings.

RE: Gel coat repair?

Most good body shops can do the repair and touch up the paint in their yard for around $3-400. Shouldn't be detectable after.

RE: Insulated windows

On average, dual pane add's around 800# total weight and should cost you around $2000-2500 to do an average rig. I'm not sure what you would get charged for crating and shipping though, sometimes as much as the windows cost!

RE: cleaning your plug-in connections

I agree, sounds like 1 or more brake shoes seperated. Just can't hear it from the cab of the TV.

RE: Dual Pane in Carri-Lite '08 - Is it needed?

We wouldn't stock a Carri-lite without dual pane glass and astrofoil insulation. Condensation is a major issue without them for fulltimers. I would check if the unit you're looking at is prepped for the 2nd AC if it doesn't already have it installed. (it will have the breaker already installed in the 110v panel for optional 2nd ac) If the unit on the dealers lot has everything else you want, go for it with the thought in the back of your mind that you can easily drop a 2nd AC in if needed. You should be able to order a new 09 optioned the way you want for $2-3000 more, not full MSRP. We have an 08 36XTRM5 on the lot optioned as you stated for $84,305 for comparison (traffordsrv.com). (not a sales pitch as I wouldn't realistically expect someone to drive the extra 4200 miles to save a couple bucks) The Carrier heatpump on the Carri-lite has a "dry" mode built in to assist in dehumidifying the interior and help minimize condensation. You've chosen a great unit and good luck with whichever way you decide to go.

RE: 1/2 TON TV for 5th Wheels, any 5Wtrailers light enough...

Toyota, Ford and Chevy all have 1/2 tons available that are rated to pull over 10,000 pounds. They are all capable of pulling the new Carriage Domani at 9300-9600# dry weight if optioned correctly. There are alot of 5'er's out there under 10,000#. We have a customer that went and bought a new Tundra crew cab to pull a Domani he was going to order. He worked with the Toyota dealer on spec'ing the truck out and they sold him one with a 5.5' bed that you cannot mount a hitch in! Now he's stuck with the wrong truck...

RE: Rubber roof porous?

Check that you don't have to reseal around your lights, ladder attachment points and/or top of your windows. Also, check that your vertical trim seams are tight and don't need to be resealed with silicone. All common sources of hidden leaks, expecially on wood framed campers that like to flex while traveling.

RE: Need Help from 08 Cameo Owners

You may also find that many Carriage dealers are now stocking the RV end adaptor to allow you to make up your own hose or to hard pipe using the Waste Master system on your Cameo. We are! Hope your enjoying your new Cameo.

RE: Gun on trailer?

We have a number of customers that frequently travel to Quebec to go hunting and fishing. It is not illegal to cross the border with gun parts! So they disassemble and scatter their weapons prior to crossing and thus can't and don't get hassled.

RE: Television goes on blink when 12v lights are turned on

Many of the new units come with pretty high-end electronics some of which are very sensative to voltage fluctuations. You can get a small UPS (uninteruptable power supply) from Radio Shack for around $60-80 that will make many annoying electronic issues disappear.
